This is why I Choose to Speak

Have you seen children on the street hunting for food from morning till dawn? The kind of innocent faces who will block your way when your hands have something that can fill their aching stomachs. Have you ever seen little angels walking around the busy streets at night looking for a safe haven to settle and let the darkness pass? Yes, I do. I always do. And these children always made me go to work empty handed. What can I do, I’d rather let them have my food than see them roaming around hunting for a not so decent place to lay down while their parents are nowhere to be found.

While we're all sitting comfortably in front of our computers, innocent lives who's existence on earth was not of their choice are in great danger of sickness, rushing vehicles and famine out there.

Responsible parenthood and birth spacing is one of the hottest issue in the country today. The headlines in newspapers and the topic of the news every day. The government had seen that passing the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill is one of the solutions to lessen not only the percentage of street children and to alleviate poverty but also to to ensure that each child will not be deprived of his basic needs (food, shelter and clothing) and be given the chance to rightful education till he can support him/herself.

My curiosity on this topic leads me to reading the whole content of the said bill, and visit forums which are in much debate of the topic. The debate of the pros and anti RH Bill leads people on the rally streets and on the House of Representatives.

I have my opinion and my excuses to readers who may have different perspective as mine. If what I read was right, I don’t have reasons to say no to RH Bill. For me it will just serve as a guide on how to become responsible parents and to use birth control alternatives of your choice except abortion ( I’m against it too)  but no one will hinder you for having the children you want for your own.

You can have 3, 4, 5 or 10 children and more than that if you want. But make sure you can provide them with clothes for them to wear, roof to protect them from sunshine and rain, food to feed their stomach, and ample time to show them love and affection…….if not, then  try to reconsider.

God bless them!

  3. Akoni Sana unahin talaga mga bata. Most them are being handled by illegal groups of men making them slaves. Nakakainis talaga. grrrr.

Thanks nga pala mommy for following me sa twitter. I'll accept your request po kapag nakapag-log in ako sa twitter.

  4. You've made a great case for responsible parenthood. I would like to think that a majority of people agree with you.

  6. I am neither pro nor anti. For me with or without RH bill we can still make a choice. We can choose to follow church advice if we want to and we can use contraceptives if we prefer that. I'm sure the RH bill will not hinder us to make a choice. I haven't read it and i don't have enough knowledge about it but surely, the bill will still leave us a choice? right?

You are right when you say we can have as many children as we want as long as we can provide for them and protect them. I also feel sorry for the street children. The story behind them is devastating. I know because i interviewed many of them. And most of the time it frustrates me because we cannot anything for them. I mean something that would permanently change their lives. In my opinion the country or government people should focus on that first. Like Akoni said.

  7. Mayen Everyday on my way to work, I always see street children. I feel sorry for them not only for the fact that they are begging for food but with the truth that their parents are nowhere to be found. How could they choose to let this children go out in the world then not to take good care of them. Silly!

  8. i am pro to RH Bill. But i don't want to say something good/bad about how the church and the anti RH Bill viewed it, but if i were them, I'll scrutinize first the pros and cons, disadvantages and advantages of the Bill before rallying.

I agree that RH bill will serve as a guide on how people especially those who do not have the knowledge on family planning. Mostly, these people belong to the marginalized sector of society and i can testify that they really don't have the idea about family planning. I've been working in the community and certainly they don't know about birth controls.

Our country is at stake, our population is becoming huge and the prevalence of street children cannot be controlled and so many more issues that for me the government is gradually starting to solve issues and problems our country is facing today. I can say that RH Bill is one of the solutions.

Sorry Sey, napahaba ata comment ko. =)

  12. Wala rin akong idea about RH bill. It is very sensitive topic na alam ko pinagaaralan.

  16. Yes. I see them everywhere, especially in the urban areas.
I used to give change to people on the streets all the time, pero my boss told me that sometimes its not the right thing to do: we are tolerating them to beg for more instead of work hard for the money. And how about the urchins? Pinambibili lang nila ng rugby to get high. But most are actually held hostages by syndicates to use them to beg.. tas pag food ang binigay mo, the syndicates would make it appear that the food you gave is spoiled/dirty causing the kid to go ill and they would sue you for that. so really, when i heard that story, takot na kong magbigay ng excess food.

I'm all for RH Bill. Some of us who are privileged of proper education would think it absurd that some people still have no idea what birth control is all about but that is actually a sad reality. They don't realize how precious the life they're bringing forth. Ang hirap ng buhay nowadays but still they keep on reproducing kids. I think the church should be lax about this Bill, kci in the first they don't carry the burden din lang naman pag dumami ang streetpeople..

And then the money, from the taxes, that's supposed to go to the various sectors of society, esp. sa DSWD. But most of these loot just went straight to the pockets of those greedy politicians..

its pathetic. i don't like it when i see streetpeople. we cant eliminate poverty but we could at least eradicate extreme poverty.. for that to happen, the government should give back what is due to its people.. and the people should think and behave more responsibly..

  19. this is quite interesting Sey. as for me, i have nothing against using contraceptives. i don't care if this RH bill will be passed or not. but the real question is, and i hope our lawmakers would have answer to this : will this help our poverty stricken countrymen? will this ensure that our nation be alleviated from hunger? personally,i don't think so. corruption is the main reason why we can't move forward. they should clean that up first before they teach everyone how to use contraceptives.

  20. Aw! I haven't read the whole RH BILL yet though I was able to watch different aired debates last week. Anyone can use contraceptives if an individual wants to just like what mayen said. I believe the intention of the RH BILL is good, but it would be better if the government make use of the funds to improve the school facilities of the public schools and the quality of education first. Because if an individual is educated well enough he'd be able to decide on this issue more wisely. :)

  21. I feel your concern. Here in our place, the children have to cross the dangerous streets, climb the running jeepneys and sing a Justin B song just to eat something for the day. I'm not yet knowledgeable about the details of the RH Bill yet, but I don't have the slightest idea of the bill will work out. Our country have many excellent laws that are poorly implemented.

  23. I recall the times I have been generous with some people but have consciously turned away from other, the so called nuisance street beggars. It seems at one moment I recognized the Lord yet at other times I shunned Him and pushed Him away. Let's talk less and share more...

  24. I agree with Ka Bute.

I see street kids all the time. I feel so sorry for them. Even those kids who work in the flea market, washing the tables? I feel so bad for them when I see them on my way to work.
