I received two messages on my inbox today. Both from the same person. One was sent with a surname and the other one with just a name. I can tell right there and then that there's something fishy. I emailed her asap, and I am glad that she's already aware of what had happened and made a post on her blog to warn/inform her bloggy friends.
You can view the message from the screenshot below.
It was stated that she made a trip to other countries, had her bag stolen and asked for financial help. This kind of spam/scam has been widely used and maybe everyone's aware of it. However to be sure, you can check the details of the message. It's quite easy to trace a message from spammers rather than from people who hide on fictitious pseudos pretending to be not who they are. From the screenshot above you can see that the message came from the correct email address however is requesting a reply to be sent to an email address with different domain name.
Spammers and scammers will never stop. People like them who doesn't know how to get a life of their own will always come up with good reasons to fool people so we should always be extra careful and take safety precautions.
If you're using the same email address in accessing other accounts like Facebook, Twitter and Blogger, I would advise you to use different passwords. If by any chance your email address was hacked, you have your other accounts safe.
If you have other safety tips, you can share them to us. Thanks!
Very helpful post indeed. You're right, scammers will never stop that's why we have to be extra diligent. That's why they say never ever send your bank details through email & change your passwords every few months. You can never be too careful these days. I remember when my mom was here, my dad received a text asking money para daw madeliver yung box na pinadala ko! Im glad my dad texted me to check - kasi wala pa naman akong pinapadalang box, haaay....Kaloka!!!
ReplyDeleteKalokang Pinay Thanks for the safety tips. Changing Password every few months is a nice way to avoid hackers.I am glad hindi kayo naisahan nung manlolokong yon. Buti careful and Dad mo. Napadami talagang gustong yumaman ngayon sa madaling paraan.
ReplyDeletePeople who do this are crazy.
ReplyDeleteMy former boss experienced this. His secretary is the one managing his email. He received an email asking him to fill out a form online otherwise he will lose his email address. The secretary filled it out for him giving all his information. The next day they cannot access his email and some people texted him if he's okay because they received email from him, similar to the one you have here.
Crazy right? You're correct that we should be very careful in protecting our emails. I always have different password for my email.
That's ridiculously crazy. What happened to the secretary? Did your boss got his email back?
ReplyDeleteI hope that wouldn't happen again. There are way too many scams especially through email and texts so we should always be careful.
ReplyDeleteHaze Your welcome din ganda! hopefully wala nga magpapaloko. Marami pa din kasing gullible na tao. Have a great morning, mwuah!
ReplyDeleteI have heard stories like this before... it is friggin scary. Just to the level that these hackers and spammers could go. Jackasses!
salamat Sey for sharing this.
Hay.. sa hotmail ko, andami ring mga nagpapadalang mga ganyang mails. yung iba, nanalo daw ako sa isang international lottery, then kelangan ng bank account details, or sabi dapat daw gumawa ako ng isang account na not less than 1000 USD ang laman. Wow! Ano yun? Hindi ako mayaman noh? Jusme!

ReplyDeleteOne of my blog friends' email was hacked too. The hacker sent emails to almost everyone in her contacts asking for money. It was a good thing she posted a status on Facebook that the email was not from her.
ReplyDeleteSpammers are the worst! I have gotten a few emails like this, it's just awful that people out there do things like this!

Sayang talaga.
Gnethc That is the same thing that happened to my blog friend. the good thing is found it out too soon and she immediately posted a warning on her blog.
ReplyDeleteDionne really awful. They should get a life so they could stop pestering other people. I feel sorry for the victims who will fall as prey.
Diamond R MARAMING SALAMAT AH!
MARAMING SALAMAT. pakisabi kay roommate, hi and hello.
ReplyDeleteThis just shows how exciting and complex the internet is. If this fraud happened outside the Web, the person would most likely get caught. But on the internet, they're evasive, their identity unknown. Unless you're a pro, you wouldnt know what to do next after finding out what the hacker's URL is. Hm, this post is most certainly helpful, I am changing my passwords right now! (:
